Hi Kids,
Congratulations on today´s festivities...all of you performed or danced really well!  And the "Calaveritas" in English were excellent.

My contribution to BF´s Radio program while you have your lunch is...guess what.....????
THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION!!!!!!!
I am positively sure that many of you eat,  at least,  one balanced meal every day.   However, many do not have a good breakfast and THAT IS a PROBLEM.

If you don´t know, OATS is Avena in Spanish. The genus Avena of the grass family, Gramineae. The scientific name of the common oat is Avena sativa .  "A grain which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland supports the people" -- this is the definition of oats given in the dictionary written in the 18th century by Dr. Samuel Johnson.  "True enough," was a Scotsman´s reply, "and where will you find such fine horses as in England, or such fine men as in Scotland?"

First let me give you the HOTCAKES recipe which you, yourselves can make at home, then freeze...and have for breakfast or bring for lunch any time of the week.  Ingredients are:

1  90gm butter bar Gloria brand without salt or your favorite brand
1  cup of wheat flour (preferably Harina de Trigo INTEGRAL 3 Estrellas)
1 to 1.5 cup of whole Oats ( Avena )
1  cup Amaranto
1/2 to 1 cup Germen de Trigo
Sugar to your liking
Small quantity of milk  or  fruit juice any flavour, or even water
1 squirt of vanilla (chorrito)
1 medium sized apple (red or yellow, sliced very fine)
Raisins, cranberries or blueberries, any nuts, semillas de linaza and/or sesame seeds are OPTIONAL

Procedure:  First, melt the butter and immediately add the Oats and the rest of the dry ingredients and then the liquids.  Then blend the rest of the ingredients.  If you need more liquid just add it little by little until you
see that it is pourable.  Heat your pan first and start making your Hot-cakes...the size and form is up to you...let them cool and then freeze.  If you do them on the weekend, you will be ready to start a good week anywhere!  Bon Apetit! (that is Buen apetito or provecho in french, but the English took it from the french)

Later I´ll give you links to places where you can find other recipes which you can choose from.

Here is another interesting article from LUMOSITY that I received ... consider it if you like DIET SODAS.

Diet Sodas: Changing Your Brain And Your Waistline
Diet sodas and the brain
Diet sodas may not be helping you lose weight—in fact, these and other artificially sweetened foods may sabotage your diet by confusing and rewiring your brain’s reward centers. This study from the journal Physiology & Behavior is yet another example of how lifestyle choices can alter your brain—negatively or positively.
Scanning diet soda drinkers' brains
The University of San Diego study followed 24 young adults: half the group drank at least one serving of diet soda every day, while the other half avoided the artificially sweetened drinks. These adults were then hooked up to brain scanning equipmentwhile scientists fed them water alternately flavored by natural and artificial sweeteners—then the researchers sat back and watched what unfolded in the brain.
The results, according to University of California San Diego researchers Green and Murphy, were pronounced: “[Diet soda drinkers] who consumed a greater number of diet sodas had reduced caudate head activation. These findings may provide some insight into the link between diet soda consumption and obesity.”
Artificial sweeteners confuse reward
A little bit of background: the caudate head is a part of the brain involved in signaling reward and controlling food intake—and its decreased activity in the brains of diet soda drinkers has substantial implications.
Researchers posit that consumption of diet soda had confused the reward loops normally processed by the caudate head: because sweetness was no longer a reliable indicator of incoming calories, the brain had trained itself to respond less in the face of sweet flavors. Unreliable sweet tastes threw off normal predictions about calories and energy in the changed brains of diet soda drinkers—making it more likely that these people would consume additional calories later in the day.
Small choices can affect your brain
This newest study is pretty preliminary; it’s difficult to say how drastically diet sodas can affect bigger questions of lifestyle and health based on such short-term brain activation patterns. Still, this recent investigation provides an interesting reflection on how choices and actions made in everyday life can powerfully influence the way your brain is wired—in other words, the concept of neuroplasticity.
We can’t always foresee the unintended negative responses our brain makes—who would have thought diet coke might do quite the opposite of what its name suggests?—but there are positive ways to harness your brain’s ability to change. Just a little Lumosity training every day, for example, can change your brain for the better: instead of confused reward signals, you could experience faster processing speed, quicker flexibility, and improved problem solving. Unlock full access today and harness that power to change!
Learn more on the Lumosity blog.
I received this information which you may find interesting, although, it´s not too close to go there.
I´m talking about The Benjamin Franklin Library, located in Liverpool 31, Colonia Juarez, tel. 5592-3483
Tell your parents about it and perhaps they can take you.

después pedir calaverita or “trick or treat”

¡Te esperamos!

DEAR STUDENTS,

The exam results were not as good as I would have liked, therefore, to continue practicing, today´s double
HOMEWORK   (to turn in by Wednesday)   will be:

5 sets of  Affirmative, Negative & Interrogative ( question ) for easy sentences using 3rd Person, Present
Simple ONLY.  Just like we did in class today.   NOTE:  Third graders will make 10 sets.
DO NOT use the verb TO BE because that is different.  We´ll practice that later this week.

Also write one sentence of your choice (keep it simple) for each of the 14 VOCABULARY WORDS that
we saw for October.  Many of you did the homework in class but DID NOT STUDY the words and so the results were evident on the exam.    Don´t Forget!

GUYS, I want to congratulate you on the Internet practice this week since most of you did well on the Countable & Non-Countable exercise.  However, you must DO YOUR HOMEWORK and STUDY
because I can see from the exam results that many of you had bad results on both this and the vocabulary words.

Now I want you to read the following link because we will use part of it on the IPAD this coming week.
But this article talks about SOFT DRINKS / Diet drinks.
